Pelican City - Rhode Island (2000)

Let me first start off by saying that if you don't download this album you're (a) making a big mistake, (b) making small children cry, and (c) a communist. Secondly I'd like to make a point that this is one of the best trip-hop albums I've ever heard. If you're familiar with the musician DJ Danger Mouse, this is the same guy. He makes some really solid beats. I really have nothing else to say. This is an awesome album, you should get it.

Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue (2009)

Bibio is known for his guitar loops and electro-acoustic music. In this album, he sort of shys away from that. He sings, he incorporates many different genres, and he does it all well. He stepped out of his comfort zone, and made an extremely solid album, one of my favorites of this year. I was really excited to read the reviews for this, as I figured this would end up being another predictable Bibio release.

Aranis - Aranis (2005)

Aranis is a Flemish septet, playing music across the borders of classical, folk and (post)rock. They have released two albums so far: Aranis (2005) and Aranis (2007).

For a while I didn't know what to make of this style of music, but it grew on me as most decent music does. If you're looking for something new and avante-garde this is definitely it.

Psycroptic - Scepter of the Ancients (2003)

Thrashy technical death metal from Australia. This was Psycroptic's second album, and their last with vocalist Matthew Chalk, who is the Mike Patton of death metal as far as I'm concerned. His performance contains all manner of growls, gurgles, cackles, screeches, and roars, and along with the band's precision riffing, makes for one hell of a listen. One of my favorite death metal albums.

Hrvatski - Swarm And Dither (2002)

"While Hrvatski is usually lumped in with all the usual suspects from Planet Mu, he is far more capable than the Autechre ripoffs that label seems to churn out." If that sounds like the introduction to a lengthy musical dissertation, that's because it was. This album is good. Download it.

Get this.

The Heavenly States - Black Comet (2005)

I'm just going to post some quotes from their myspace because I'm lazy.

"Combining the scruffy shocks of guitar and dyspeptic swagger of pre-grunge rockers like Agitprop and Pavement with a layered late-90's indie-pop aesthetic best associated with Dave Fridmann... the States' mix of beauty and attack are keenly calibrated"
--AP Mag

For all you indie snobs with a shadowy Dave Matthews Band-loving past, this Oakland, California, trio delivers equal parts patchouli-soaked violin and Superchunk-worthy melodies.--RollingStone

Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)

michael jackson died today at age 50 in los angeles, california. he was one of the greatest performers of our time and one of the best selling artists ever. i enjoyed michael's music very much during my childhood and still do today so news of his death were kind of sad to me. i don't care about his general weirdness and the scandals as that was part of his personal life, i'm just interested in the musician and entertainer, i hope all of you remember him for that as well as acknowledge his importance in music history, this is a sad day for music and music fans. here's his album thriller, the best selling album of all times. RIP king of pop.

Eluvium - An Accidental Memory in the Case of Death (2004)

So my hard drive is still not working, accounting for the lack of uploads on my part in a while. Apparently this is a common problem with this type of hard drive and Windows Vista. Anyway, there goes 200+ GB of music that I can no longer listen to or upload. So I'm slowly getting a new library together and re-downloading some old stuff. Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about the music.

Eluvium is a solo project of Matthew Cooper that many of you are probably familiar with. The music varies from album to album, incorporating solo piano, minimalist works, ambient music, and various styles of electronic and shoegaze music. This particular album is solely piano works, ranging from good to amazing depending on the track and taste of the listener. I would recommend trying it.

Flake Music - Spork EP (1995)

Flake Music was a band from Albuquerque, United States led by James Mercer before he dropped the project in favor of his side-band, The Shins. In fact, James brought along the entire band with him and they formed under their new name.

90s indie rock, somewhat lo-fi. good stuff. get it. also get their later album which I posted on this blog a while ago if you like this one.

this is the debut album from english post-punk band the chameleons (known by some as the chameleons UK as it was the name they used for some US releases). i don't know what else to tell you about them, they were not as popular as some bands from their time but they were probably better than most of them. great album.

Nobunny - Raw Romance (2009)

The followup album from Okimoniks drummer/Sneaky Pinks founder Nobunny. Love Visions, his previous release (which can also be found on this blog), was my AOTY 2008. This rendition is a lot more acoustic based than his previous one, but he still sticks to the lo-fi/garage rock genre very well. I didn't enjoy this release as much as Love Visions, but it's growing on me over time and it's a entertaining album in it's own right.

Sorry for the awful picture, finding an actual picture of the album art in a decent size is a bitch.

REPOST

the previous rip was shit. here's a better version of this awesome album.

finally the new the sounds album is out. crossing the rubicon is the 3rd full length from this swedish band, i've been waiting for this for a couple of years and though it's not as upbeat and catchy as their previous albums, it feels more mature, dunno might be a grower.

Imperium Dekadenz - Dämmerung der Szenarien (2007)

To celebrate the 666th post here at We Fucking Love Music, I've decided to upload some truly outstanding black metal. The riffs are ridiculously epic, and the beautiful clean interludes are wonderfully atmospheric. While characteristically thin, the production is fairly crisp for a black metal record.

Sounds like: a more black metal Agalloch, with an almost funeral doom atmosphere at times

Silver Apples - s/t

I don't really know too much about this band, or what to say about this music, so I'll go ahead and copypasta the last.fm since it's a hell of a lot more informative than I am.

"Contrasting the flowery psychedelic rock music of the late-1960s, the new york city-based Silver Apples created an avant-garde sound based on little more than a homemade synthesizer and an extensive drumkit."

I've only listened to this album once, and I really, really enjoyed it. A few people that I've talked to say it's one of their favorites. Overall, it's a really cool album that deserves some attention.

Kap Bambino - Love (2002)

Sorry I haven't been around all week (or since my birthday, really). I've had one hell of a time. Of course, you probably didn't notice or care. I'll be catching up on overdue papers for a week or so, but before that, I have a few uploads to justify my protracted leave.

Love is Kap Bambino's first, extremely limited edition, Vinyl-only release from way back in '02. So you can forgive a lot of publications for citing ZLNV as their debut. It's much more mellow than their later stuff, though it still gets pretty intense at times. If you are not a Kap Bambino fan, this will not convert you. Lots of those great squelchy synths and noisy hooks I am so fond of.

I have not heard the new album yet, since I shelled out big to order a copy from Holland and I feel some sort of grudging duy to wait. Don't spoil it for me.

HORSE the band - Shapeshift 7" (2009)

get it if you like: xiu xiu.

horse the band's new single from their 4th album desperate living (to be released in august), features vocals (and possibly production) from james stewart from xiu xiu. limited to 500 copies, 250 to be sold on tour while on the UK (go see them britfriends) and 250 to be sold through vagrant records. the song is still very horse-ish, similar to the stuff on a natural death, but like more mature, as it's been with every horse album, natural evolution i guess we could call it. also includes a remix by skrillex, aka sonny moore, former singer of from first to last.

Týr - By the Light of the Northern Star (2009)

Grab a sword and a flagon of mead, folks, because the Faroe Island's premiere Viking metal band (well, probably their only well known one) is at it again with their latest album "By the Light of the Northern Star." Týr is known for their catchy, fist pumping melodies as well as their dedication to the folk traditions of the Faroe Islands, Denmark, Iceland, and Scandinavia in general. There is some repetition, especially in the metallified folk songs, but overall, this is an incredibly solid release from a band that still stands out in the viking/folk metal world.

Also the cover shows an armor-clad Viking chopping a fucking cross in half with his sword. What reason do you have to NOT get this?

Tom Waits - Rain Dogs (1985)

I'm sure a lot of you have heard this album or any other album Tom Waits has put out, but I've really been diggin' this lately so I thought I'd share it with those that haven't heard it. The sound changes quite a bit throughout the album, it's hard to place it under one genre. The only thing that's consistent, however, is how amazing it is, and how eerie Tom's voice is. Give this a shot, it's one of my favorite albums of all time.

Lush chamber pop from Jeff Meiburg (ex-Okkerville River) and 14 friends. This album is alternately pastoral and thunderous, with Meiburg's gorgeous voice and piano front and center. Plus, it's about birds because he's ornithology grad student, haha.
